Herbert E. Smith, 81, of Moosic, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015, in Regional Hospital, Scranton. The special bond of true love and devotion has joined him together again with his wife, Lois A. Seipe Smith, who passed away on Monday, July 20th.

Born in Old Forge, he was a son of the late Edwin and Elizabeth Arndt Smith. He was educated in the Old Forge schools and Johnson College, Scranton. Herb was an Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War and earned the rank of Sergeant. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an over the road truck driver for M&M Transportation Co., Old Forge and Consolidated Freight Ways, Mt. Pocono, where he retired in 1996. Since his retirement, he had worked for several funeral homes in the Old Forge, Taylor and Scranton area and was most recently employed by Baloga Funeral Home, Inc., Pittston (Port Griffith).

He was a member of the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, Old Forge, where he served on the board, as an usher and was very active with the many dinners, fundraisers and church functions. He was also a member of Acacia Lodge 579 Free & Accepted Masons, Taylor; a member and past commander of the VFW Post 4954, Old Forge; Teamsters Retirees Local 229, Scranton; and the Big Band Society, Pittston.

Herb was a beloved father, grandpa, brother, and uncle, who cherished his grandchildren and his family. He loved times spent at their cottage in Lake Spangenberg; hunting, gardening and trips to the Tioga Downs casino. His neighbors will remember him for his many Christmas decorations that adorned the house year after year.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Killino and husband, Atty. Thomas J., Scranton and Kristina Dorsey and husband, Don, Carolina Beach, NC; grandchildren, Savanna and Thomas Killino and James Thomas Murphy, Tori Renee Smith, and Dallas Holden Skillings; brother, Theodore Smith and wife, Geraldine, Taylor; sister, Dorothy Petersen, Mill City; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Judith Ann Smith; brothers John, Robert and Edwin Smith.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015, at 11:00A.M. in Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith), with Rev. Donald B. Perry, Pastor of the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, Old Forge, officiating. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery, Clarks Summit.

Military services will be conducted by the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church 174 N. Main St., Old Forge, PA 18518.
