Joseph R. Aliciene, Sr., 73, of Port Griffith, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. His wife, the late Patricia C. Spatz Aliciene, passed away May 27, 2004.
Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late Albert, Sr. and Virginia Musto Aliciene. Joseph was a graduate of Pittston Twp. High School and Kings College, where he earned a degree in Accounting. In the late 1960's, Joseph started his own accounting firm, Joseph R. Aliciene & Co. and the Aliciene Insurance Agency, Port Griffith.
Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish, Pittston. He also was a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Tax & Accounting Professionals; the Pittston Twp. Lions Club and a longtime member of the Pittston Twp. Volunteer Fire Company, where he proudly served as chairman for the Northeast Fair for over 45 years.
Joseph was a beloved father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially dinners with his grandchildren. One of Joseph's highlights in recent years was his opportunity to cruise the Mediterranean Sea, with his son, daughter-in-law and his precious grandchildren. The trip allowed him the opportunity to visit his father's ancestral village in Italy.
Joseph is survived by his loving son, Joseph R. Aliciene, Jr. and his wife, Maria, Shavertown; grandsons, Joseph R., III and Dominic Aliciene; several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Albert, Jr. and John Aliciene; sisters, Mary Louise Norris, Theresa Champi and Catherine Ann Fino.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses that helped Joseph in his time of need. They would also like to thank Diane Burton, an employee and friend, who helped him with everything that he needed.
The funeral will Friday, October 7, 2016 at 8:45 AM from Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St., Pittston. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
