Robert N. Chamberlain - Saturday, 8/11/2018

Robert N. Chamberlain, 80, of Pittston, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, in River Run Rehab and Nursing Center, Kingston. He and his wife, Marlene Gibblets Burdett Chamberlain, celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary on January 6, 2018.

Born in Dallas, he was a son of the late Walter and Edith Collins Chamberlain. He was a graduate of Lake Lehman High School, Wyoming Seminary and from Wilkes University in 1962 with a business degree. He was also a quartermaster in the U.S. Navy for two years.

In December 2000, he retired from Schott Glass Technologies after 32 years of service. Twenty three of those years were spent as West Coast Optical Sales Manager in Fullerton, CA and the remaining years in Duryea, PA as Product Manager in the Optical Sales Department. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston.

Bob was a quiet man who still enjoyed reading business magazines long into his retirement. He also enjoyed attending school concerts and marching band competitions which were a big part of his stepchildren's lives. He took great pride in his granddaughter, Madelyn and loved watching her enjoy all the places she went and activities she enjoyed. He loved the annual trip to Ocean City, MD with her since she was a toddler and was saddened when he could no longer go.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his stepchildren, Laurie Burdett, Duryea; Matt Burdett, Pittston; Adam Burdett and his wife, Becky, Pittston Township; granddaughter, Madelyn; son, Peter; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter and wife, Joyce and brother, Fritz and wife, Donna.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 9:00 AM in Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith), with Rev. John C. Major, officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Exeter.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects Friday, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church 220 Montgomery Avenue, West Pittston, PA 18643 or SPCA of Luzerne County 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

R.I.P. Papa Bob. I never knew you, but Maddie talked a lot about you and it seems so sad that you've been gone for this long. All I know is that Maddie loved you very much. Goodbye.

Dear Marlene, I'm sorry for your loss. I knew Bob mostly from when I was about nine and he was sixteen, when I visited Edith and Dodd's home in Dallas for a week during the summer. Bob played a game with me in which I got inside a barrel and then he would let it roll down the hill a little. But then he didn't catch me and I rolled down the entire hill, which I remember being pretty big! I still have bumps on my head to remember him by. Wishing you well, Gary Collins PS: my father was Edith's half-brother, so Bob and I were half-first-cousins, I guess.
