Richard "Dick" A. White, Sr. - Monday, 2/6/2023

On Monday, January 30, 2023, Richard "Dick" A. White, Sr., loving father of three children passed away at the age of 83.

Richard was born in Trenton, NJ; he was a son of the late George Edward White and Mary Newman White Strohm. He was a graduate of Freehold Regional High School, NJ. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he learned discipline, respect, duty and honor. He always looked forward to and traveled a great distance for the annual reunions with his shipmates from the USS Independence.

Richard was a beloved daddy, poppy, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. His life focus was his faith, family and country. His devotion and dedication to the veterans both living and deceased was immeasurable. He was a devoted member and chaplain of the AMVETS Post 189, Dupont. He was dedicated to the offering of the red poppy and could always be found outside a Walmart, Redner's and the Pittston Tomato Festival where he met so many wonderful people along the way. Richard's knowledge and mentorship to his comrades will never be forgotten. He was also a member of the VFW Post 4909, Dupont, the Polish American Citizens Club, Dupont, American Legion Post 477, Pittston, Greater Pittston Knights of Columbus Council 372, Lithuanian Club, Pittston and Inkerman, the Elks Lodge #1544, Monticello, NY and was a lifelong member of the Pittston YMCA. One of Richard's proudest accomplishments was the relocation of the flag that once flew at the Pittston Unemployment office, which was torn down. He is responsible for the flags new location at the Pittston YMCA, where it still flies today.

Richard had worked over 50 years as a Maitre D' in the hotel industry in the Catskills of New York and had retired in 2001 from Kutsher's Country Club in Monticello, NY. Richard enjoyed sitting on his front porch listening to music or just enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Phillies fan. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard is survived by his son, Richard White, Jr. and companion, Paula Hemminger; two daughters, Gina White and companion, Joseph Carrozza and Colleen Farrell and husband, John; four grandchildren, Richard A. White III and wife, Liz, James Joseph White, Peyton Neishman and Annie DePascale; Sisters-in-law: Brothers-in–law; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Baby Gina Marie White; brothers, George, Jean, Donald and James White; sister, Betty DeGallo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 AM on Monday, February 6, 2023, in St. Joseph Marello Parish 237 William St., Pittston, to be celebrated by Fr. Paul McDonnell, O.S.J.. Military honors will be conducted by the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston. Everyone attending the mass on Monday is asked to go directly to the church.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday at Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith), from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M..

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the AMVETS Post 4909 126 Main Street, Dupont, PA 18641.
