Barbara A. Nelson, 73, of Luzerne, formerly of Pittston, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, Thursday evening, November 6, 2014 at Golden Living Center-East Mountain, Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late John and Dorothy Plonski Wassil. She was a graduate of Pittston High School, Class of 1959. Prior to its closing, she was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston and currently a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
Barbara was a beloved companion, mother, nana, sister and aunt, who was cherished by her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She truly loved going to exercise with the people at Changes, Luzerne; she was an avid reader; she enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida; and she took great pride in spoiling her cat, Pepper.
Barbara is survived by her companion, Stanley Kotulski, of Luzerne, with whom she shared 27 years together; her two daughters, Barbara Shiner and husband, Ron, Port Richey, Fla. and Carol Truchon and husband, Dean, Shickshinny; grandchildren, Ronnie and fiancée, Tanya, Jonathan and Samantha Shiner and Ashli Truchon; brother, John Wassil and companion, Lois McHugh, Pittston; sisters, Dorothy Zavada and husband, Jerry, Edgewater Park, NJ and Christine Bogdon and husband, Joseph, Sweet Valley; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Monday, November 10, 2014 at 8:45 a.m. from Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, William Street, Pittston. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Duryea.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
