Gerard E. "Gerry" McGinley, 73, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, November 28, 2014 in Texas. He and his wife, Marjorie Laughery McGinley, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on April 27, 2014.

Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late John Francis and Kathleen Doud McGinley. Gerry grew up in Wyoming, PA, as the youngest of eight brothers and sisters. After graduating from Wyoming Memorial High School, Class of 1959, he moved to New York City where he began his career with American Airlines and met his wife, Marjorie. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they raised their two daughters, Nancy and Judy. The family moved to Texas in 1991. Gerry retired from AMR/Sabre in 2005 after 41 years of service. He loved his work, but his greatest treasures were his wife, children, grandchildren, and 34 nieces and nephews. Always a great story teller, he loved to share memories with each special person in his life. His stories will continue to be told and all the wonderful memories his family has will forever be treasured.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughters, Nancy McAdams and her husband Joe and Judy McGinley; grandchildren, Jack, Matthew, and Allison McAdams; sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Dabbieri; nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Anne McDonald and June Keska; brothers, Jack, Francis, Robert, and Paul McGinley.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 9:30 A.M. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston, PA. Interment will be with his parents in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Scranton, PA.

Aunt Marge, Judy, Nancy and Joe and kids, we pray for peace, strength, and comfort during this difficult time. Uncle Ger was...well...Uncle Ger! he was a caring, funny guy who loved to engage with people. I will remember him most for his love of the spoken word and for some very specific expressions I can still see in my mind's eye. I will remember him most with joy and laughter and love. Thanks, Uncle Ger, for being you and sharing your life with the rest of us. So many wonderful memories.

My sincere condolences to Gerry's precious family. Gerry was such a wonderful co-worker,teacher, mentor and friend and always was willing to go the extra mile to help resolve a problem or ensure you had an understanding of how things worked. Even today, I often reference information Gerry shared with us. Gerry was definitely one of a kind. May God continue to embrace you all and give you peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Although our hearts are broken, Uncle Ger would want us all to remember the good times, the laughs and the jokes. Even though thousands of miles separated us over the years, Uncle Ger, Aunt Marge, Nancy and Judy were always here in PA to celebrate our many milestones in our lives. He was a man of a few words..a few million! His stories went on for hours but when he spoke everyone was always gathered around. He was bigger than life in the eyes of all of his family and that is what we will celebrate as we gather together. We were blessed with the life of Gerard E. McGinley and thankful that we had the years we had. And even though we will now be separated physically by more miles, he will be near in our hearts forever. We Love You Uncle Ger, thanks for the memories...until we meet again!!

Gerry and I go way back to the 40's and 50's when we got together often either at their house in Wyoming or my house in Dunmore for parties. June, Fran, Paul, Gerry and my brother John went picnicking and swimming one day. I have a picture of us all but cannot remember what place it was!!! The last time we met was 1996 when one of the D'Abbieri's got married. Marge, Nancy, Judy and all the family, I extend my deepest sympathies to you. He is at peace but it is the survivors that must bear the terrible loss. Please God, give you all the help you need.
