Dante J. Maurizi, Sr., 83, of Pittston Twp., passed away Monday, December 15, 2014, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, surrounded by his loving family. He and his wife, Ann Bianco Maurizi, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on April 22, 2014.
Born in Pittston Township, he was a son of the late Guerrino "Charlie" and Susie Panunti Maurizi. He was a graduate of Pittston Township High School, Class of 1949. Dante was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He then joined the 300 Field Hospital, Wilkes-Barre; he earned the rank of E-7 and retired after 32yrs. of service.
For over 60 years, Dante was a well-known, self-employed, second generation building contractor for Maurizi Builders. He worked many years alongside his son, Dante and was proud the business continues in its third generation.
He was a member of St. Joseph Marello Church, Pittston. He was a lifetime member of the Pittston Twp. Fire Dept., and was also a member of the Pittston Twp. Lions Club; the bowling team for Knights of Columbus, Pittston; and the Italian Educational Circle, Cork Lane.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of the 5th floor PCU at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and to Dr. Gerald Gibbons and staff for the care given to Dante over the years.
Dante was a beloved husband, father, PaPa and friend, who was cherished by all who knew and loved him. He was very devoted to his three granddaughters and was proud of each of their accomplishments.
He was a big fan of Nascar and enjoyed going to the races; Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver. He also loved to golf and was an avid sportsman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Roxann Radginski and husband, Robert, Pittston Twp.; his son, Dante J. Maurizi, Jr. and his wife, Diane, Avoca; three granddaughters, Dana and Krista Maurizi and Amanda Radginski; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Maurizi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 19, 2014, at 9:30 A.M. in St. Joseph Marello Parish 237 William St., Pittston. Interment will be in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston Twp.. Everyone attending the mass is asked to go directly to the church on Friday morning.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston, (Port Griffith), PA.
