Joseph J. Gross, 69, of Pittston, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015, at home, surrounded by his family. He and his wife, Shirley Sweeney Gross, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 6.
Born in Pittston, he was a son of Edith Perschau Gross, Pittston and the late Joseph W. Gross. Joseph was a graduate of Pittston High School, class of 1963. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.. Joseph had entered into the service in 1963 and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N. Carolina for 18 months. He was deployed in 1965 to 1966 to Chu Lai, Vietnam. He returned home in 1969 and had earned the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Gross was employed by Pittston Apparel and then Party Time Mfg. Co. in Hughestown, for 37 years.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice, Old Forge; especially to Lisa, RN and Dr. Guy Fasciana, for the exceptional care given to Joseph over the past several months.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughters, Susan Gross, Pittston Twp.; Melissa, Joelene and Michelle Gross, all of Pittston; grandchildren, Sam, Jr. and Savannah Jones, Kyle Norton, Jace Gross, and Madison Williams; sisters, Ann Marie Gross, Pittston; and Mary Theresa Fine, Milton, Fl.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ted, who passed away in 1991.
