Sharon A. Gorzkowski, 61, of Avoca, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. She and her husband, Edward P. Gorzkowski, Jr., celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on September 28, 2015.
Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mildred A. Kavka Wasko. She was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1973. Sharon worked alongside her husband, Edward, at Modern Gas Sales, Avoca and was a member of the Pennsylvania Propane Gas Association. She was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca; formerly St. Mary's Church. Sharon was also a breast cancer survivor.
Sharon's greatest accomplishments were being the best wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend anyone could have. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren sharing her great love for them. She had many pastimes, including: her love of corvettes (proud owner of one) and attending corvette shows; a casino and purse bingo enthusiast; love of good food; love of animals, and an avid Phillies fan.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Dr. Edward P. Gorzkowski, III and his wife, Catherine G., Odenton, MD; Lynne Luckasavage, (caretaker) and her husband, John, Avoca; Michael Gorzkowski, Hughestown; grandchildren, Abigail Gorzkowski, Hailey Luckasavage, Edward Gorzkowski, IV, and Logan Luckasavage; brother, Thomas Wasko and his wife, Cathy, Port Griffith; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Queen of the Apostles Parish, Hawthorne Street, Avoca, with Father Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Pittston. Relatives and friends may pay their respects 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
