Elizabeth "Betty" Dabbieri, R.N. - Thursday, 12/22/2016
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elizabeth “Betty” McGinley Dabbieri, R.N., 87, of Pittston, entered into eternal life on Friday, December 16, 2016, after a seven year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the widow of Joseph Dabbieri who passed away on July 23, 1993. Born in Moosic, she was a daughter of the late John Francis and Kathleen Doud McGinley. Betty was a graduate of Wyoming Memorial High School, Class of 1947, and Pittston Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1950. She had worked as a Registered Nurse at Pittston Hospital, St. Claire’s Hospital, New York City, Ransom Convalescent Home and had retired in 1986 from Allied Skilled Nursing, Scranton. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. The home at 201 Parsonage Street in Pittston is where Betty and Joe built their loving family. Family and faith were her life’s passion, passing these values down through generations. She will forever be remembered as the “rock” of her family; our “Iron Betty”, who had the determination to accomplish whatever she set her mind to do. She was cherished by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of each of them. They will never forget grandma, their “hero”, and their precious memories will remain in their hearts forever. She was an avid Yankees fan and loved reading. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many health care professionals who were angels among us during mom’s illness namely: Dr. Guy Fasciana, the staffs of the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility at Wesley Village, Geisinger ER, Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit @ Geisinger South Wilkes Barre and Compassionate Care Hospice. She is survived by her nine children, Kathy Kostik and husband, Hank, Wyoming; John Dabbieri and wife, Mary Catherine, Plains; Jane Jeffery and husband, James, Wyoming; Arlene Clonan and husband, Michael, Shavertown; Marie Yedenak and husband, Demetrius, Exeter; Joanne Bankert and husband, Jeff, West Chester; Joseph Dabbieri, Falls; Lisa Gumbravich and husband, Rich, Hanover Twp.; and Susan Baloga and husband, John, Dupont; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Jolene Dabbieri and Baby Yedenak; her twin sister, Anne McDonald, and sister, June Keska; brothers, Jack, Francis, Robert, Paul, and Gerard McGinley. The funeral will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 9:15 AM from Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston, to be celebrated by her cousin, Fr. Message: Betty , you'll be forever in my heart. You influenced me so very much and made me feel a part of your family when I was young and your neighbor. Your love of nursing influenced me to follow in that profession, and it has been my life's work for over 40 yrs. the care I have given influenced by your deep compassion for those in need and ill. Your deep faith also affected my deep belief. Sometime others don't realize how their interaction in the lives of others can affect them all their lives. I'm so grateful to have known you. To all your children and grandchildren my deepest sympathy for your loss and know you have a wonderful advocate in Heaven.
