John P. Gromala - Monday, 3/20/2017
John P. Gromala, 62, of Pittston Township, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. He and his wife, Gayle Evitts Gromala, celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on May, 31, 2016. Born in Taylor, he was a son of the late Joseph J. and Lillian Zuba Gromala. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1972 and had attended Luzerne County Community College. John was employed as a shipping manager for Leslie Fay, then worked at Techneglas and lastly was a planner for Lowe's Distribution Center, Pittston. He was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca. John was a beloved husband, daddy and brother, who cherished his family. He had a great sense of humor and would go to great lengths to make someone laugh. He was proud of his immense collection of baseball hats and enjoyed watching all his Philadelphia sports teams. The world is truly a darker place without his light. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Andrew Gromala, Pittston; Matthew and Sarah Gromala, at home; sisters, Katherine Sweeney and husband, John, Norristown; Mary Walsh and husband, David, Duryea; Donna Bartosiewicz and husband, Robert, Avoca; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and is missed by his dog, Bandit. John was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Gromala. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Monday from Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM in Queen of the Apostles Parish, Hawthorne Street, Avoca, with Father Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may pay their respects Monday morning 8:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 712 S. Keyser Avenue Taylor, PA 18517.
