Donna Marie Lavelle Zigmund - Friday, 6/22/2018
Donna Marie Lavelle Zigmund, R.N., 59, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 surrounded by her loving family following an illness. She was born in Wilkes-Barre to Margaret "Peg" Staub Lavelle and the late Richard Paul Lavelle Sr. Donna was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School class of ‘76, where she was a member of the swim team. Donna obtained an associates in nursing from Luzerne County Community College and went on to complete her RN,BSN degree at College Misericordia in ‘83. Donna began her nursing career at Valley Crest Nursing Home, before working for the Department of Veteran Affairs for 11 years. She was also employed by the PA, NC, and FL Departments of Health throughout her career. Donna helped start the Safe Kids initiative here in PA, a cause in which she took great pride. Most recently, Donna was employed by Baptist Health Systems of Jacksonville, FL as Elder Care Advocate and later went on to Ambulatory Care Coordinator. In her 38 years as a nurse, Donna was able to touch many lives and help care for those without a voice. Donna attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Mission in Yulee, FL, and was a woman of very strong faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Paul Lavelle Sr. Surviving are: Donna’s loving and devoted husband of 28 years, Edmund Zigmund; mother, Margaret “Peg” Staub Lavelle; brother, Richard Paul Lavelle Jr. and his wife Diane; sister, Helen Chopack Coolbaugh and her husband Ken; mother-in-law, Irene C. Zigmund; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Donna will always be remembered as a vibrant, lively, compassionate, and fun-loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She had an infectious smile that would light up any room. One of Donna’s greatest enjoyments in life was to travel with her husband, whom she adored. Donna and Ed found great joy in simply being together each day. They especially loved going to the beach, and attending sporting events. Donna loved to sit by the pool and never wasted a beautiful sunny day. She also went above and beyond in her duties as an aunt, never missing an opportunity to take her nieces and nephews somewhere special. She was a passionate advocate and caretaker for the elderly and children alike. She lived for her faith, husband, career, and family— and truly never had an unkind word to say about anybody. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10:15 A.M. from Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 116 Hughes Street Swoyersville, to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph J. Pisaneschi, Pastor. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends may pay their respects Thursday, from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Memory of Donna Marie Lavelle Zigmund to Misericordia University c/o Nursing Program 301 Lake Street Dallas, PA 18612 or visit

Message: I always have the fondest memories of Donna and our times together with friends and her wonderful family. We used to go camping together at Rehobeth beach with her family and our good friend Audrey. We also used to spend many good times together at the Polish Club includind Holidays like Halloween. They were always a hoot when Ziggy and Donna would dress up to the hilt. Yes they were always the couple who could finish each other's sentenences. Life has it's way on speeding up on you and with children and every thing that comes after. It is often hard to keep up, let alone keep in touch with some of your closest friends. My husband and I did meet up with Donna and Ziggy the last time we could in FLA, but then again, other then Xmas cards that was quite some time ago. I will forever remember one of my closest and dearest friends even though we did not speak often enough. But I do know this...i could definately call her at any time and it would be like the thing that had been forgotten-was time.
Peggy I got your message and am hoping u or a family member call me back at 610-216-1993. My dearest condolences.

Message: OMG! I don't know what to say. I haven't seen you in many years. I remember our happy times back in the VA when we all worked together and always went out and danced, whether at the Woodlands or Polish Club. The old Pardini's since closed. She would order salads and we would eat like pigs, LOL We always sang and danced. We truly traveled to dance the disco route. I remember the Champagne bashes at the old Staircase Lounge where I think you met Ziggy, not sure though. You both have had a short life together, but memorable, I'm so sorry, I will miss you. Remember the dances we had. Donna was the best person ever in life. Never had a bad word, and always with a smile. She always wanted to call us to exercise in the 80s, we were too lazy, lol. May you be at peace.
