John S. Ludzia, 96, of Port Griffith, passed away Monday evening, August 13, 2018, in Wesley Village, Jenkins Township. His wife, Rose Baron Ludzia, passed away on December 23, 2012.
Born in Port Griffith, he was a son of the late John S., Sr. and Mary Monka Ludzia. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and had served in World War II. John was a Staff Sergeant Combat Infantryman and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 938, Jenkins Twp. and DAV 46. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Duryea Woodworking Co. and in his earlier years was a coal miner. He was a former member of St. Joseph's Church, Port Griffith and current member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
John was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He loved his family unconditionally and taught them all how to love through his actions.
John is survived by his son, Peter Ludzia, and his wife, Judy; his daughter, Mary Baro and her fiancé, Phillip; grandchildren, Jennifer, Allison, Nicholas, Melissa, and Rebecca; great grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Benjamin, Gabriel and Francis; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Vincent; brothers, Larry and Tom and sisters, Nellie Harenza and Agnes Ludzia.
The funeral will be held Friday, August 17, 2018, at 10:30 AM from Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St John the Evangelist Church, William St., Pittston. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, PA.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M., at the funeral home.
Military services will be conducted by the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston.
