John "PaPa" F. Soska, Jr, 89, of Pittston, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
His wife, Bridget Jean Walsh Soska, passed away February 20, 2000.
Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late John F., Sr. and Mary Simko Soska. John was a graduate of West Pittston High School. He was a veteran of the US Army & retired from the US Navy as a chief radioman.
He had served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Prior to retirement, he was an electronic technician employed by Weston Industries, (currently Lockheed Martin), Archbald.
John was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and belonged to the Spark Amateur Radio Club.
PaPa always loved his adventures back to the homestead in Harding, where he would relax, take in the beauty of nature and enjoy the company of his best friend, his dog Wolfie.
He is survived by his sons, John F. Soska, III and David Soska and wife, Sandy; grandchildren, Amy, Todd and Shawn Soska; great grandchildren, Kylie, Destiny and Jaylen; brother, Donald Soska and wife, Helen; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, John "Ziggy" D. Soska, brothers, Robert, Peter and George Soska.
The funeral will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 8:45 AM from Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston. Interment with military honors will be in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
