Dorothy M. Wayda Albert, 82, of Jenkins Twp., passed away peacefully at her home, on Saturday, January 9, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She and her loving and devoted husband, John J. "Jack" Albert, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in June.
Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a daughter of the late Paul and Anna Poplawski Wayda. She was a graduate of St. Ann's High School, Scranton; earned her Bachelor's degree in Education at Marywood University, Scranton and her Master's degree at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C.. She was a teacher at the Scranton State School for the Deaf, from where she retired.
Dorothy was devoted to her faith and was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, where she served as a lector for many years. She was also a member of the Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens organization and the Tuesday night "Card Girls Club".
Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She and her husband, Jack loved their many adventures going on cruises all over the world. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandsons and was always there in an instant for whatever they needed. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband, surviving are sons Joseph Albert; James Albert and wife, Samantha, all of Jenkins Twp.; Timothy Albert and wife, Mary, Plains; daughter, Ann Marie Mudlock and husband, Joseph, Jenkins Twp.; grandsons, Jack, William and Connor Albert; sister, Helen McAndrew and husband, Joseph, Laflin; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Wayda, infant sister, Anna Wayda and brother, Joseph Wayda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 14, 2021, in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive., Laflin, to be celebrated by Fr. Seth Wasnock, Pastor. Interment will be at a later date in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Taylor.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith) and Thursday morning at the church from 9:00AM until the time of the mass. (Please be aware that CDC guidelines will be in place with masks and social distancing required at both the funeral home and at the church).
