David J. Panunti, Sr. - Wednesday, 10/27/21

David J. Panunti, Sr., 72, of Dupont, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 22, 2021, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.. He and his wife, Bernadine "Bernie" Panunti, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on May 9, 2021.

Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late Joseph and Nettie Occhiato Panunti. He was educated in the Pittston Area schools. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Mideast Aluminum, Mountain Top.

Dave's happiest moments were surrounded by his family where he would often be heard saying, "Life is Good!" One of his last family trips was captaining a pontoon at Lake Wallenpaupack filled with his wife, children and grandchildren on a perfect summer day. This day, like most days is in his last years, was filled with his infectious laughter and ear-to-ear, mustache-rimmed smile.

Dave was also an avid outdoorsmen and loved hunting, fishing and boating. His truck was always stocked with the proper gear and equipment for a quick trip to Lake Winola or a cruise down the Susquehanna.

When Dave wasn't enjoying time with his family or the outdoors, you could always find him tinkering away at some project. He took great pride in doing all sorts of handyman tasks at his home and his children's home.

His love of a bargain and stubborn belief that everything has at least two or three life cycles often led to many uncomfortable family discussions. He would stop any of us from buying something for a home project or outdoor adventure because he was sure he had the exact item in the basement or the shed, or the other shed. If he didn't have the item we needed, he could fix anything with a roll of electrical tape, some perfectly good wood from the pile out back, and the wisdom that comes from years of hard work and perseverance for the ones he loved.

The world is a quieter place today without his jolly laughter and love-filled guidance and advice.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, David Panunti, Jr. and fiancée, Rita Kuchta and Michael Panunti and wife, Sarah; daughter, Brandy Panunti and partner, Lauri Wild; granddaughter, Francesca Panunti; step grandchildren, Jake Zelenak and Calvin Zinn; brother, Robert Panunti and wife, Cheryl; sister, Theresa Panunti; nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Lilly and Lucca.

He was reunited with his best friend, his dog Annie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish, 535 North Main Street, Pittston, to be celebrated by Fr. Paul McDonnell, O.S.J.. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the church, from 1:30 PM until the time of the mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to One Life to Live Pet Rescue 1721 Olive St., Scranton, PA 18510 or to Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge 974 Lockville Rd., Dallas, PA 18612.
