Robert J. Smyden, of Jenkins Twp., passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in Highland Manor Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Exeter. He and his loving and devoted wife, Dolores "Doris" Humko Smyden, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 18, 2022.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Walter A. and Evelyn Stuscavage Smyden. He was a graduate of Kingston High School. Robert was a U.S. Navy veteran. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Dallas State Correctional Institution. After retirement, he then re-entered the work force working security at Mohegan Sun casino.
He was a sportsman, who loved fishing and hunting. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Eagles. Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, whose memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Donna Richmond and husband, Thomas, Sr., Mountain Top; Lisa Scott, Jenkins Twp.; son-in-law, James Scott, Jenkins Twp.; grandchildren, Jimi Scott, Joshua Scott, Thomas H. Richmond, Jr. and Hunter P. Richmond; great grandchildren, Kaydence, Alexis, Regan, Thomas, Connor and Grayson; sisters, Rita Stollenwerk, Ft. Myers Beach, Fla. and Marlene Marks and husband, Paul, Hanover, MD; sister-in-law, Irene Sorbelli, Jenkins Twp.; nephew, Jack Stollenwerk ; niece and nephew, Christel Breeden and husband, William and Sean Marks and wife, Tracy; nephew, Vincent Sorbelli.
Robert was preceded in death by a nephew, Mark P. Sorbelli.
A private family viewing and blessing service will be held at the funeral home. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Annunciation Cemetery, Pringle.
Military honors will be conducted by AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston.
