John R. Farrell, Sr, 85, of Yatesville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.. He is now rejoined with his beloved wife of 57 years, Carol Boston Farrell, who passed away May 30, 2015.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Edward and Emma Benish Farrell.
John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War and was stationed in Morocco.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by InterMetro Industries, Wilkes-Barre. He later worked as a van driver for PACE, along with several other jobs to keep busy.
John was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His greatest joy was to be surrounded by his family. He enjoyed going for daily drives all over the area. He also enjoyed going for breakfast and spending time with his brother Ed every Friday. John had a natural charm at meeting and talking to people. He was a frequent customer at the Pittston Denny's, a place he loved and was cherished. John took the time to listen and get to know each person he met. He would meet you as a stranger and leave as a friend. The memories will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his daughters, Roxanne Wech; Sheri Rinaldi and fiancé, Kevin Bednarsky; son, John R. Farrell, Jr. and wife, Colleen; grandchildren, Lisa Mancini and husband, Jim, Brian Graham and wife, Karissa, Cheryl Alu and husband, John, Amber and Olivia Rinaldi and Logan Bednarsky; step grandson, James White; seven great grandchildren; brother, Edward Farrell and wife, Deanna; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Farrell; brother, Joseph Farrell and son-in-law, David Wech, Sr..
A blessing service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 10:00 AM in Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street Pittston (Port Griffith), with Fr. John C. Ruth, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
