Mary A. Vitek - Saturday, 6/24/2023
Mary A. Vitek, 92, of Port Griffith, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at home, with her loving son Stephen by her side. She was a devout catholic, who always had a rosary in her hand, a loving mother and sister, a faithful friend and a caregiver to so many. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Born in Port Griffith, she was a daughter and 1 of 16 children of the late Andrew and Mary Koscelnak Miskovic Vitek. She was a graduate of Jenkins Township High School, Class of 1947 and had recently celebrated her 75th reunion. Mary was a seamstress in the garment industry and had retired from Lee Manufacturing, Pittston. She was a member of the ILGWU and the Slovak Catholic Sokol Assembly 86, Port Griffith. She enjoyed her trips to the casino. She loved her Slovak heritage and traditions. Mary was a life member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Church, Pittston, until its closure and currently St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. A special thank you to all her doctors and caregivers that took great care of my mom. Mary is survived by her son, Stephen Vitek, whom she adored; sisters, Florence Para and Ann Marie Silinskie; brother, Andrew Vitek and wife, Bea; Goddaughters, Renee Matt, Linda Trotter, and JoLynn Para-Garrison; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, George and Leo Vitek and Emil Miskovic and sisters, Emily Grebeck, Josephine Vitek, Ruth Warnagiris, Betty Fereck, Irene Pitel, Julie Utegg, Sister M. Florine Vitek, O.S.F. and Sister M. Andrene Vitek, S.S.C.M.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 in St. John the Evangelist Church 35 William Street, Pittston, to be celebrated by Fr. Joseph Elston. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Slovak Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith) and Saturday at the church from 12:00PM until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to St. John the Evangelist Parish 35 William Street, Pittston, PA 18640.
