Ann Marie Durkin D'Aiello, 67, a life-long resident of Avoca, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
She was the daughter and best friend of Louise Durkin and her late father, John F. Durkin, Sr..
Ann Marie was a 1974 graduate of Pittston Area High School and a faithful member of the Queen of the Apostles Parish in Avoca. Her first and most favorite career was being a waitress at Terry's Diner in Moosic. She was a graduate of Allied Medical Careers; a unit secretary at WBGH; and a customer service representative and manager at Sallie Mae, Hanover Township. She retired when her son Charlie developed leukemia at age 6. She never left his side through the hard-fought battle for 5 years. Her life was never the same after his passing in 1992. She longed for the day that she would see him again.
She learned to find joy as the years passed, and her whole life revolved around her children and grandchildren, whom she loved unceasingly.
She is survived by her children, whom she was so proud of, Geniele and John and daughter-in-law, Kim D'Aiello; grandchildren, Dylan Mlaker, Emily and Madelyn D'Aiello; siblings, John (Jacqueline) Durkin, Diane Minkoff and Brian (Donna) Durkin.
Ann Marie is also survived by her life-long "sister" and best friend Mary Perks; nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends and extended family, all of whom will miss her terribly.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 9:15 A.M. from Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith), with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in Queen of the Apostles Parish, Hawthorne Street, Avoca, to be celebrated by Father Phillip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca.
