Edward J. Harenza, 96, Plymouth, passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at home. His wife, Elizabeth Martin Harenza, passed away in 1995.
Born in Port Griffith, the son of the late Michael and Agnes Lukasczyk Harenza. Ed was a graduate of Jenkins Twp. High School, Class of 1947. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served 5 years; upon discharge Ed enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served until 1970. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam War. After Ed's military service, he served as head custodian at Wyoming Valley West High School for 20 years.
Ed was a member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth, where he was a member of the Usher's Club. He was a life member of the DAV, VFW Post 1425, where he served as past Commander, Air Force Sergeant Association, Wyoming, and AMVETS Post 59. He was third degree in the Knights of Columbus Plymouth Council 11901 and fourth degree Luzerne Assembly 1928.
Ed is survived by Son, Michael Harenza; Daughters, Michelle Harenza, and Kathleen (Robert) Shaw; Grandchildren, John (Sarah) Shaw, Susan (Shawn)Reilly, D.J. & Ryan Bird; Great Grandchildren, Makenzee, Makynlee, and Makaylyn Reilly, Brantley and Ella Shaw; son-in-law, David Bird; sister-in-law, Genevieve Harenza; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ed is also preceded in death by his son, Capt. Edward Harenza, Jr. USAF, daughter, Susan Bird, his brothers, Andrew, Joseph, Stanley "Zip", and Leonard S. Harenza, and his sisters, Josephine Radginski, Helen Palivoda, Stella Breck, Angela Kruchinshy.
A funeral will be held 8:00AM Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street Pittston, (Port Griffith) with a Mass of Christian Burial held at 9:00AM in All Saints Parish 66 Willow Street, Plymouth, PA 18651, to be celebrated by Rev. Gerald J. Gurka, Pastor. Interment will be Thursday, May 14, 2026, with Honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery 60 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday at Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith), from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
