Stephen J. Romanecz - Saturday, 5/23/2026

Stephen J. Romanecz, 39, of Wilkes-Barre, and formerly of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, May 13th.

Born in Scranton, he was a son of Paula (Vermack) Regan, Pittston, and Stephen M. Romanecz, Pittston. Steve was a 2005 graduate of Pittston Area High School and attended Luzerne County Community College. Friends affectionately knew him as 'Remo'. He was a member of the former SS. Peter & Paul Parish, Avoca.

He was last employed by White's Mechanical, Blakely, as an HVAC engineer and held many certifications and licenses within the industry. If you needed a tool, Steve certainly had it, and three others like it. He also held many roles in the family business, the former Ruane & Regan Funeral Home, Avoca.

An avid music lover who listened to various genres, you could always find him with the music up or earbuds in. He enjoyed fishing, outdoor activities, and animals, especially his cat Mama Luna and being a dog-uncle to Murphy and Chipper. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan alongside his father and made it a point to attend the Bloomsburg Fair every year, one of his favorite events

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Michael W. Regan; aunts, Connie Laskowski (godmother) and Michalene Vermack, and Carol Latona; uncles, David Vermack and Joseph Latona; step-uncles, James "Thinker" Thomas, Joe Regan, Francis 'Butch' Regan and wife Donna (step-aunt), and Patrick Regan.

Steve is survived by his mother, Paula and companion John Mikiewicz; his father Steve, and step-mother Marie McLean Romanecz; a brother, Jeff Romanecz and partner Frank Andrews; two step-sisters Holly Fitch (Andy), Katie McLean; a step-brother Ryan McLean; aunts and uncles, Michael Vermack (Judy), Joseph Vermack, John Vermack, godfather (companion Denise Shields), George Vermack (Helene), Jennifer Menichini, Debbie Jopling Owens, and Charles Laskowski (Jeanie). He is also survived by first cousins, George and Kyle Vermack, Nikki Davis, Ryan Vermack, Abbi and Ashley Menichini, Linda Carlini, and Lisa Ciccaglione; four nieces; several step-aunts and uncles; as well as many extended-family, cousins, and friends.

A Blessing Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 23rd at Baloga Funeral Home, 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith), by Reverend Phillip J. Sladicka. Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Spring St., Moosic.
