Charles S. Shoppel, Sr., 67, of Port Griffith, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He and his wife, Evelyn Griglock Shoppel, the love of his life, celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on September 25, 2013.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Stanley and Frances Dombroskus Shoppel. He was a graduate of Exeter High School, Class of 1965. Charles was employed by A& A Auto Parts, where he has worked for over forty years. He was Manager at their Green Ridge store and was Assistant Manager for their Exeter location. He was a lifetime member of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association. Charles loved working on military equipment and all classic cars. He enjoyed going to the Carlisle and Hershey car shows.
Charles loved his family and his friends. His memory will always remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Charles also had a love of nature, which included planting flowers, feeding the birds and mowing his lawn. One of his favorite places to go was Banko's Seafood, Nanticoke. He was a former member of St. Casimir's Church, Pittston.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Charles, Jr. and wife, Elisabeth, Pittston; Stanley and companion, Kimberly Merithew, Jenkins Twp.; brother, Stanley and wife, Norma, Mechanicsburg; grandsons, Charles III and Anthony Shoppel and his dog, Bubba.
A blessing service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 9:30 A.M. in Baloga Funeral Home, Inc. 1201 Main Street, Pittston (Port Griffith), with Fr. Brian J.W. Clarke, officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Exeter.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4:30 to 8:00 P.M.
